| This medication is an antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. This drug should not be used to treat pneumonia. If used to treat pneumonia, you may experience severe side effects (especially heart and breathing problems). Consult your doctor for more details. | Vancomycin is an antibiotic used to treat a severe intestinal condition known as Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea. This condition usually occurs after the use of another antibiotic, which allows the growth of resistant bacteria in the intestines, leading to severe diarrhea. When vancomycin is given by mouth, it is not absorbed by the body but remains in the intestines, allowing it to stop the growth of the bacteria responsible for this form of colitis. This antibiotic treats only bacterial infections of the intestines. It will not work for other bacterial infections or viral infections (e.g., common cold, flu). Unnecessary use or overuse of any antibiotic can lead to its decreased effectiveness. | |||

| Add Daptomycin review After 2 weeks of IV Vanco,for a infection in my knee following replacement surgery the doctor put me on this. The side effects are nasty, but within 3 days the incision began to heal and is doing very well. After breaking my leg in a car accident, surgery was performed and a metal rod screwed to the tibia to stabilize for healing. Several weeks later, a low level infection evolved of uncertain origins. Doctors agreed that it could be a reaction to one or more metals in the rod, and started Daptomycin to "buy time" for the leg to heal. I've been on it for about three weeks. So far, no obvious problems with the meds, although I am usually tired, but some days, not so much. I have allergies to many typical antibiotics, so I was surprised and happy when the dapto seemed to work with my system okay. I have appreciated having my pic line although once in a while, the tape around it itches, but it really hasn't been a big deal. My white cell count is "under control" and my bones continue to heal. Surgery to remove the metal from my leg is imminent, and then I can go back to my normal life. :) Used this after being diagnosed with MRSA and nothing else worked, even in combination. This drug actually saved my life, though I was afraid of taking it due to a family history of kidney problems. Only real side fx were no appetite and now my hair is falling out (still, 4 months later), though may be from stress of illness and not med. I had a pic line for administration. Hated that the most. | Add Vancomycin review My Dr gave me medication yesterday and insurance would not cover. I started having pain in bladder area after first dose. My Dr informed me this drug has virtually no side affects but in reading I find out differently. I also am partially deaf due to other issues and am concerned about loss of hearing as I don't have a lot to loose. Has anyone experience bladder pain or hearing loss? Did hearing return? Treated c-diff with flagyl but it came back. Now on 3rd course (3 months) of 500mg every 6 hours. C-diff symptoms still present. Severe nausea after taking it, and lots of hair loss, does anyone notice hairloss? Very expensive, lucky to have full coverage by insurance plan. Took vancomycin to treat CDiff, after 14 days, stopped medication. 3 weeks later Cdiff was positive again. Took Vanco for a total of 30 days tappering does last two weeks. Side affects were horrible, back pain, stomach ache, cramping, fatique and diahrea. Have been off it for 5 days now and still feeling tired with some stomach issues. How long does it take to get out of system and/or for my digestive system to get bck to normal? | |||
