Flovent vs Qvar

Fluticasone is used to control and prevent symptoms (such as wheezing and shortness of breath) caused by asthma. It works by reducing swelling (inflammation) of the airways in the lungs to make breathing easier. Controlling symptoms of asthma helps you maintain your normal activities and decreases time lost from work or school. Fluticasone belongs to a class of drugs known as corticosteroids. This medication must be used regularly to be effective. It does not work immediately and should not be used to relieve sudden asthma attacks. If an asthma attack occurs, use your quick-relief inhaler (such as albuterol, also called salbutamol in some countries) as prescribed. OTHER USES: This section contains uses of this drug that are not listed in the approved professional labeling for the drug but that may be prescribed by your health care professional. Use this drug for a condition that is listed in this section only if it has been so prescribed by your health care professional. Fluticasone may also be used with other medications to control symptoms of ongoing lung disease (such as chronic bronchitis, emphysema, COPD).Consult your pharmacist.

My son has been using this medication. It works wonders for his asthma symptoms, however it makes him very aggresive. I'm not sure if the risks are worth it

I was diagnosed with Adult Onset Asthma 5 months ago. My doctor put me on Proair HFA; it worked but I had to use it more times a day than the doctor really wanted me to. She put me on Qvar (once in the morning/once at night) with the Proair to use for backup. I have been on Qvar now almost 3 months and it is amazing how much better I am doing and how much less I need the Proair.

Was taking several different asthma meds before trying qvar and since starting it I have not had to use my every day inhaler and have stopped taking some of my other asthma meds. I am very happy with the results of qvar
