Lysine changed my life. I've been getting bad cold sores for the last 6 years. I started taking Lysine a year ago, and have not got one since. I take 1 pill in the morning everyday with vitamins..awesome!

I have suffered cold sores for 50 years and was taking using zovirax cream and more recently the tablets, but did not like the side effects of an upset stomach and intense dreams (not nightmares). I now take one 1000mg tablet of lysine at the first sign, usually the itch and then one 1000 mg tablet each day for 5 days. It works and the side effects are much less than zovirax. Other benefits from lysine seem to be a lessening of mild arteritic pain in my knuckles and a general feeling of 'wellbeing' and more energy. (I am 65). However, because of the reported side effects of gallstones and kidney problems, I am reluctant to take a continuous low dosage and increase it when the itch returns.
