Arformoterol is used as a long-term (maintenance) treatment to prevent and decrease wheezing and shortness of breath caused by breathing problems (such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, including chronic bronchitis and emphysema). Arformoterol belongs to a class of drugs known as bronchodilators. It works in the airways by opening breathing passages and relaxing muscles. Controlling symptoms of breathing problems can decrease time lost from work or school. This medication does not work right away and should not be used for sudden attacks of breathing trouble. Your doctor must prescribe a quick-relief medicine/inhaler (such as albuterol, also known as salbutamol) for sudden shortness of breath while you are using arformoterol. You should always have a quick-relief inhaler with you. Arformoterol is usually used in combination with other medications (such as inhaled corticosteroids). However, it should not be used with similar long-acting inhaled beta agonists (such as formoterol, salmeterol) since this may increase your risk for side effects. This product is used to treat and prevent symptoms (wheezing and shortness of breath) caused by ongoing lung disease (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease-COPD which includes bronchitis and emphysema). This product contains 2 medications: ipratropium and albuterol (also known as salbutamol). Both drugs work by relaxing the muscles around the airways so that they open up and you can breathe more easily. Controlling symptoms of breathing problems can decrease time lost from work or school.

A lung specialist wrote a prescription for Brovana on my first visit in early December 07. In the past several years I have only used the treadmill in my bedroom to hang extra clothing. Within two days of using Brovana I was walking on my treadmill for a period of 15 minutes. I have tried various other inhalers including Duoneb, advair, Q-var, and albuterol with only minimal effectiveness. I am now doing a combination of Brovana (this was the drug that made the big difference), Combivent duoneb, and Q-var. The downside of Brovana (if you are not using Medicare Part B) is the cost-- $1000/90 days. Thus far, this drug has given me a new lease on life.

I like the ease of one tube instead of 2. It takes less time than the ones I had to mix. The only thing is I get severe muscle spasms and the pain is really bad. Feels like my calf is being ripped apart. I am going to speak to my doctor next week about it.

I had at least 4 exacerbations before being prescribed DuoNeb. My breathing problems were due to pneumonia, so I can't really say how these other patients have recovered. You can't believe all that they write, because everyone responds differently yo various types of medications. If a drug works for you, use it. If not try something else.
